Today, after a service in Fullerton, I was on my way to a cell church in LA and driving by 80 miles/hr on the 110 N freeway. Then suddenly, my tire exploded and my car slowed down and stopped in the very middle of the freeway.

Fortunately, I could exit to a sideway safely with the help of the car in the next line. The tire was totally teared away and my bumper was also severly scratched. Furthermore, the side lamp was crashed. However, except that, everything was fine (including myself).

After calling my insurance company, waiting for their arrival, I looked over myself, and what I had wondered about lately. Then I figured out how weak and bad what I thought about was.

Now, I think that was a kind of God’s rebuke on me, and I will try to listen to His voice.

The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. - Psalms 118:18 -

I’ve had this kind of car accidents three times in my life. Once in Korea and twice in LA. Everytime, it was really scary situation, but I was totally fine and not hurted at all.

I feel the favor of God is always with me and gaurd me. Thank you so much, God. Praise be to the Lord, my God.

The LORD watches over you–the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

하기 위해 쓰기 시작했지만, 오랜만의 포스팅이니 근황 이야기 좀 하고 가야지.

요즘하고 있는 것은

• 연구 활동
  • Computational Modeling of Motor Adaptation - 어느 덧 세째 학기에 접어든 연구과제. 지난 학기에 크게 방향을 전환한 탓에 생각보다 많은 시간이 걸렸지만, 이번 학기 중에는 마무리 지을 계획이다.
  • Prediction of Long-term Performance in Motor Tasks - 위의 연구와 관련된 주제. 아직은 브레인 스토밍 단계이지만 교수님께서이 주제에 대단한 열의를 보이고 계시기 때문에 곧 구체적인 모델링에 들어갈 것 같다.
• 수업 및 강의 보조
  • EE517 Statistics - 괴짜 교수 Kosko, PhD, JD가 가르치는 통계. 연구에 도움이 되는 여러가지 통계 관련 개념 및 기술을 배우고 있다.
  • EE559 Pattern Recognition - 지금까지 들은 Neural Networks, Machine Learning의 연장선 상에 있는 강좌.
  • CS561 Artificial Intelligence - 기대가 커서 였는지 많이 실망하고 있는 강좌이다. CS 수업들은 Science라기 보다 Ad-hoc Engineering에 가깝다는 생각을 굳히는데 일조하고 있다.
  • CS597 CS PhD Seminar - 1년차 PhD 학생들이 필수로 들어야 하는 세미나 과목으로 각기 다른 분야의 교수들과 학생들이 돌아가며 자신의 분야를 소개한다. USC CS는 확실히 Neuroscience와 Robotics쪽 비중이 크다는 것을 느낄 수 있다.
  • PT569 Neuroscience - 이번 학기 TA하는 강좌인데, 사실 Teaching Assistant라기 보다 Copying Assistant이다. Teaching은 다른 PhD 말년차 TA가 도맡아서 하고, 나는 매 시간 1000장에 달하는 핸드아웃을 프린트만 하면 되는 이른바 땡보직 이라고 할 수 있다.
• 신앙 생활
  • GSC 성경 공부 - 매주 화요일 교회에서 하는 성경 공부 모임에 참석 중.
  • 전도 훈련 - 매주 토요일, 작년 이맘 때 참석했던 전도 훈련에 이번에는 Assistant Trainer로 참여하고 있다.
• 여가 활동
  • 테니스 - 2월 초부터 테니스를 배우고 있는데, 생각보다 운동량도 많고 재미있어서 한참 빠져있다. 틈만 나면 종혜를 불러 같이 치다보니, 얼굴이 많이 탔다. 그래도 Natalie는 Healthy해 보인다더군.

적어놓고 보니 많은 일을 하고 있는 것 같은데, 사실 그렇게 부지런하게 살고 있는 것은 아니다. -_-;
매 학기 더 바뻐지면서도 어떻게든 해나가는 것을 보면, 사람의 역량이라는 것은 발휘하기 나름이라는 생각이 든다.

그럼 이만 오늘 오후 세미나 발표 준비하러 가야겠다.
영어가 부실하니 내용이라도 꽉꽉 채워넣어야지.
